Year-round Phuket is not an endless vacation. It is normal tropical life with budgets, schools, doctors, internet, rain, humidity and the question of whether you wanted an island or just a backdrop.
Living in Phuket all year round is possible. The question is not whether it is physically possible, but whether the format suits you. The island does not turn into an all inclusive paradise after renting an apartment. It becomes your everyday life: work, school, doctor, bills, rain, deliveries, traffic jams, sports, friends, air conditioning repair and the sudden thought that humidity also has a character.
How much money do you need? For a single adult, a very basic life can start from about 35,000-45,000 baht per month, but it is more comfortable to count from 55,000-80,000 baht without luxury. A family with a child, a car, good rent and an international school easily costs 180,000-350,000 baht per month and more. The main budget monster is not coconuts, but rent, school, cars, medicine/insurance and the habit of eating like on an eternal date.
The Internet in Phuket is generally good for remote work, if the accommodation is chosen properly. Fiber is widely available in popular areas and cell service is strong, but a specific home needs to be checked before signing a contract. One speedtest in the lobby does not count. Check your workplace, video call, mobile internet backup and what happens when it rains. Zoom won't forgive you for a sea view if it sounds like a submarine.
Medicine on the island has become one of the big advantages for a long stay. Phuket has Bangkok Hospital Phuket, Bangkok Hospital Siriroj, Dibuk Hospital, Vachira Phuket and a network of clinics. Private healthcare is strong, but not cheap, so insurance is not a decorative budget line item. It is important for a family to live not just next to a beautiful beach, but with reasonable access to a normal clinic and an emergency route.
Schools are a separate anchor. BISP, UWC Thailand, HeadStart, Kajonkiet, QSI and other schools provide choice according to program, budget and area. But places, fees and routes need to be checked in advance. In 2026/2027, annual tuition fees for strong international schools can range from several hundred thousand baht to almost a million baht and higher in senior years. Real estate near a school often benefits not from romance, but from the fact that the child does not spend his life in a car.
How to survive the rainy season? Don't dramatize or deny. From May to October there will be more humidity, stronger seas on the west coast, more risk of mold and sometimes less beachy vibes. You need normal ventilation, a dehumidifier if necessary, a check of the roof/windows, a backup indoor scenario, a pool, a gym and an area where life does not turn off with the sun.
Isn't it boring in Phuket? Itโs boring for those who only moved to the sea and didnโt build a life. If there is work, sports, friends, school, hobbies, trips, yachting, golf, Muay Thai, restaurants, islands and normal routine, boredom is not the main problem. The main problem is not to turn life into an endless โIโll start tomorrow.โ The tropics are great for relaxing. Sometimes too professional.
Phuket is suitable all year round for those who want a warm international base, a family environment, outdoor-life and are ready to manage household details. Not suitable for those who want the island to decide visas, money, school, work and internal discipline. Phuket gives you a lot, but it wonโt grow up for you.
